A terrific e-learning tool for child care staff, ECE’s and Supervisors.  A bi-lingual resource that makes the Day Nursuries Act come to life through an interactive presentation and question and answer exercises.

Last year we started an annual award for “Excellence in Advocacy”, Our first recipient of the award was Pauline Marois started Quebec’s affordable, universal early learning and child care program.
 
This year the CCWAD committee decided to give the “Excellence in Advocacy” award to Dr. Charles Pascal. CBC News: Teachers’ Role in Full-day Preschool Plan Debated

The Ontario government is under pressure from several groups as it chooses between expanding the role of teachers in kindergarten classes and enlisting cheaper, early-childhood educators in its attempt to implement full-day learning at preschool.

Given the harsh economic climate in Ontario, enlisting early-childhood educators — who earn significantly less than teachers — could save the government a fair bit of money…

Local News: Federal money lags provincial interest in early education and child care

” It aren’t going to move ahead into a some kind of a better developed policy system without a national policy that works with the provinces, that picks up the interest in early childhood education and care, tries to pull them together..” said Martha Friendly, who helped write the eighth biannual report for the Childcare Resource and Research Unit

” 77 % of the women that are working right now, most of them cannot find decent affordable regulated child care for their children,” said the Toronto MP.

Ontario Child Care is struggling under the strain of chronic under-funding.

Local News: Child-care program could be cut in Waterloo Region

Subsidized child care in Waterloo Region could be facing cuts as regional council grapples with a $1.7 million loss in government funding.

Key problem is the federal government’s decision in 2006 to cancel a national, $5-billion plan for child care.

Regional Chair Ken Seiling said council will have to decide whether to cut subsidized child care, or fund the shortfall or a combination of both.
