Dear Friends,
Every Child, Every Opportunity, the curriculum for the full day Early Learning Program for 4 and 5 year olds, is now available in French and English online at http://www.ontario.ca/en/initiatives/early_learning/STEL02_198770.
The curriculum, the third and final product the Premier asked me to produce, was developed by a team of experts led by Jane Bertrand, George Brown College faculty member in the department of Early Childhood Education and
Dianne Riehl, Early Years Program Co-ordinator for the Toronto District School Board, reviewed by Dr. Stuart Shanker and informed by a team of experts. Every Child, Every Opportunity builds on the ELECT pedagogical framework and is intended to guide programming throughout the child’s entire day, including summer activities.
In my view, the authors and experts who contributed to Every Child, Every Opportunity, have developed a document that reflects the best knowledge and practice available to inform early childhood programming and can be
considered for widespread field-testing as part of the phase-one implementation of the Early Learning Program.
Sincerely,
Charles E. Pascal
Executive Director, Atkinson Foundation

I am glad that Dr charles pascal is doing something for the ECE teacher, for long time we are working hard for less paid and no union specialy in many french day care in toronto
The full day of learning is a wonderful improvement for our system.
Quality education provided by both kindergarten teachers and ECE’s should really enhance the child’s experience going forward.
I truly beleive however that quality must go hand in hand with affordability and currently there are many middle class families that could be considered working poor, trying to pay the costs of full time childcare.
Our two children attending full time care will be more than double our mortgage cost, which puts my wife in a position that she is pretty much working for her health benefits only.
My other concern again financial, is that many families are going to receive the financial benefit of full day learning as many as 5 years earlier than others..simply based on where the child attends school.
Again I commend the industry for their efforts and look forward to the implementation of this program. I can’t help but wonder however if this money would not be better spent on helping more young families get access to quality child care at an affordible price.
Where can I find the new curriculum for all day kindergarten that was announced by the Education Ministry yesterday (Wednesday April14)?
