Windsor Star: Daycare Closings Inevitable
“Four of the municipal centres are more than half empty, according to a council report.”
“The city has tried to boost enrolment by recruiting families and extending hours. They’ve tried to save money by contracting out caretaking, reducing support staff, sharing resources and ordering food and materials in bulk.”
“But in the last three years all the centres [in Windsor, Tecumseh and Amherstburg] have suffered declining enrolment, some speculate because of the poor economy. Fewer people are working, so fewer need child care.”
“The 101-day municipal strike hit the city child care centres hard. There were 513 kids in the centres before the strike, 425 after. Many families found alternate care and didn’t come back. Now, Ontario is phasing in full-day kindergarten for four- and five-year-olds starting in September.”

When will someone actually publish the CORRECT facts!!! Has anyone took the time to actually speak with a ECE or a Parent of a child that attends the Municipal run daycares.
Do your homework!!!!! The full day school is only 3 days a week, so what are full time working parents to do….work 3 days a week!!!! Silly, silly government and all those who do not ask the realistic questions.
How does closing the daycares save money?? Many of the workers will be “bumped” out of job or they do not qualify for another position. So many workers will have to go on unemployment, or on Welfare or we will be paying for their retraining for a 2nd career. Also the many LOCAL small business owners who provide such things are bread and produce will be out of work, the janitorial staff, the cleaning supplies company etc…. the list goes on and on. Windsor’s cash flow (local spending in grocery stores, retail stores, restaurants etc will slow down dramatically..can we really afford our economy to get any slower!!!!
WAKE UP WINDSOR!!!!!! RESEARCH THE TRUE CONSEQUENCE BEFORE MAKING HASTY DECISIONS
OUR CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE………WE SHOULD CARE ABOUT THEM, THE ARE NOT A HOT COMMODITY FOR SALE ON THE STOCK MARKET, THEY ARE OUR FUTURE AND WE SHOULD ENSURE THEY HAVE A FIGHTING CHANCE BEGINNING WITH A SAFE REGULATED ENVIRONMENT WITH COMMITTED QUALIFIED STAFF.

ABVOUSLY THERE WAS A NEED FOR MUNICIPAL DAYCARES OR THEY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SEVERAL OF THEM OPENED.
