Child care costs on the rise again
Under the city’s 2012 budget, parents with children in a school-based child care centre will face another jump in childcare costs. This jump is in addition to the increase caused by the implementation of full-day kindergarten.
The estimated amount of the increase is approximately $500 per child per year, which will further burden the families that are already struggling to keep up.
The fee increases would be because of the proposal to end the city’s thirteen year agreement with the school board to cover their operating costs. If the centre’s costs increase, the child care fees will increase to compensate for the difference.
