Stop the Corporate Takeover of Local Child Care
The move by multinational child care providers to expand operations is sweeping into Canada like a tidal wave. The world’s biggest child care corporation appears to be embarking on a Canadian buying spree – a development that threatens the future of a public, non-profit child care system.
Under the brand name "123 Busy Beavers Learning Centres", 123 Global Holdings and related company ABC Developmental Learning Centres have incorporated companies in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario. ABC Learning is said to the be the world's largest provider of child care services. In 2001, the company had 43 centres. Through acquistions, the company has grown to over 2300 centres in Australia, the United States, the UK and New Zealand.
