Child Care's Financial Crisis

The province has implemented full-day kindergarten which provides free education and supervision to the 4 and 5 year olds in Ontario, which is one positive step forward for the children of Ontario. On the other hand, there has been little financial support for all the child care centres impacted by this roll out.

According to the Towncrier.ca there was a report released by the city that indicates:

"Seventeen percent of the city’s 924 licensed childcare centres are at risk of closure due to revenue losses brought on by full-day kindergarten."

The majority of these centres are located in lower income neighbourhoods where many parents will severely affected by the increases in non-subsidized, full-fee childcare.
