After the death of a toddler in an unlicensed Vaughan home child care facility, the New Democrats believe that the Ontario's ombudsman should further investigate whether the government is doing enough to protect children in unlicensed childcare. NDP critic Monique Taylor has also stated that "other children have died in unlicensed daycares, including a baby who was shaken to death in 2011 and a toddler who was found at the bottom of a pool in 2010".
