Families in Ottawa's Lowertown neighbourhood, many of them registering as low-income, are trying to save a Francophone child-care centre that will soon close for building repairs.

The City of Ottawa notified parents and staff on July 9 that the Beausoleil Child Care Centre on York Street would close at the end of August for a full calendar year, according to a news release.

In response, more than 40 families came together to form SOS Beausoleil in hopes of saving the centre, which is almost 45 years old.

Work is needed to repair these balconies at 333 York St., which will lead to the closure of the Beausoleil child care centre beginning in late August. (Hallie Cotnam/CBC)
