OCBCC Meets with Pay Equity Commissioner

In January, the OCBCC met with Pay Equity Commissioner Emanuela Heyninck. The Pay Equity Commission is responsible for enforcing pay equity and education and awareness on pay equity.

We know child care centres recognize the need for pay equity. But if pay equity is to be achieved the Ontario Government needs to resume funding! That’s why the OCBCC is a leading member of the Pay Equity Coalition.

The Liberal Government stopped funding pay equity in 2006 and failed to include pay equity in the 2008 Budget. This year, the Liberal Government will owe 78 million dollars to women in the “proxy” sector, including child care staff.

Over the next several months, the OCBCC will be working with our members to show the cost of pay equity in terms of higher parent fees. For more information contact Andrea Calver.
