It is surprising to know that York and Peel region have no one on their wait lists for child-care subsidies. According to Cordelia Abankwa, the General Manager of Social Services for York Region, the low demand is due to a lack of awareness and knowledge of who may be eligible for a child care fee subsidy. Universally accessible and affordable child care is not only for low-income families, but for every single family who needs the services. With a recent boost in millions of dollars in provincial and federal funding, many middle-income households will benefit from child care subsidies.
