Chiefs of Ontario
In January of this year, the Chiefs of Ontario hosted an Early Learning Summit in Toronto. This summit included keynote speaker Dr. Charles E. Pascal and various presentations from learning centres. The centres presented various programs in their centre including: a literacy summer camp geared to 4-12 year old children to get them ready for school in September, a Seeds of Empathy program which encourages and develops character, and Awishnabemowin instruction which emphasizes the children's culture and heritage. The centres are all involved in their surrounding communities and run outreach programs to create awareness and a greater sense of community. One centre runs cultural awareness activities four days a week which include: elders visits, cultural crafts, and language promotion.
