As of March 31 of this year an Early Year Centre in Winona will be closing. The first one opened in Stoney Creek only eight years ago and has expanded in to nine locations. These centres are funded by the government and offer such programs as reading time, prenatal classes and parenting programs. The centre has been providing services for the community for 22 years although not all of them have been under the Early Learning Centre. However there is not enough participants to get funding to stay open. Winona is a growing economy and many are looking for these services. Community members are hopeful that relocation may increase the number of participants and are starting to look for other locations.
