February 12: Celebration of Child Care in Peel

About 100 parents and staff attended the Celebration of Child Care to plan next steps in the on-going campaign to save child care in Peel region.

The focus of the meeting was to reach out to local members of the provincial parliament - MPP's - in advance of the provincial budget, expected in late March or early April.

The province funds child care, regional governments deliver child care. So to fix the problems in child care, we need funding in the provincial budget.

Participants were encouraged to go to www.waitingforchildcare.ca. The site allows you to send a message to your MPP using your postal code.

In addition, we set up Parent Action Committees to continue the work educating regional councillors on the work of the regionally run child care centres. In March, regional councillors will consider a proposal on next steps moving forward for the task force.

The day was not all work! We celebrated the skills, education, commitment and dedication of staff with a cake reading "Thank You for your Hard Work".

And we celebrated the efforts of parents to stand up for child care with a cake reading "Save Peel Child Care"
