The star has released an article comparing the child care situation across the GTA. Beginning with the Peel Region, stating that although Toronto has the highest child care costs, Brampton has the least affordable child care when comparing a mothers income. Peel has also took a controversial decision to close 12 child care centres to redirect those funds to child care subsidy.
The provinces 2012 child care formula has addressed the demand in York Region, possibly relating to the fast growing population. York has reduced their subsidy wait list by 40% in the last year.
Full day kindergarten has been problematic to Halton's child care centres because of the loss of staff. The region hopes that the $2 an hour provincial wage grant will help address the issue.
Almost 80% of Durhams elementary schools have a licensed before and after school program. However, affordability and child care spaces continues to be an issue in this region.
