IPPR report calls for more affordable childcare and a greater qualified workforce

The Institute for Public Policy Research has called for greater free childcare entitlement for families in a report titled ‘The Condition of Britain: Strategies for social renewal’ which outlines 28 recommendations on improving social policy, ahead of next year’s general election. It said more emphasis should be placed on having a better qualified early years workforce, and working parents should have access to free or affordable quality childcare for children aged between one and four. Furthermore, the report recommends all staff members, providing care for children in nurseries, have at least a level three qualification, and that 30 per cent of staff should have a specialist early years degree.
