It's not cheap to raise children

The Hamilton Spectator

The article discusses the Fraser Institute reporting on the “reality of raising children in North America” which includes contrasting estimates of $3,000-$4,500 in lower income and new immigrant families to the one estimating $10,000-$15,000 per annum.

“The FI expresses concern that the higher estimates are being manufactured in order to send a message to lower-income families that they probably shouldn't bother having kids since they can't afford it anyway.”

The Government is looking into following the FI budget for child rearing as a means to “trim their budget” and exclude child care if it is not as expensive.
