"Child care desert" is a term used in Canada to describe areas where there aren't enough spaces in child care centres to match the number of children who need care. These "child care deserts" are more often found in rural and suburban areas and is forcing some parents to leave the work force to care for their children. Expanding the reach of child care centres to these rural and suburban areas will go a long way to making child care more accessible for all families no matter where they live.
