OCBCC Poverty Reduction Submission

The OCBCC believes that more affordable child care is the key to reducing poverty. Many parents report that the lack of accessible and affordable child care is a barrier to finding employment.

The OCBCC makes two Poverty Reduction Strategy Recommendations:

Increasing the number of child care subsidies will allow more access to quality licensed child care for low income parents.

Working collaboratively with school boards and the Ontario Government to eliminate rental fees for use of schools, which is ultimately reflected in the parent fees for child care.

The OCBCC submission highlights the universal, affordable, child care system in Quebec and the economic benefits their investment in child care has created.
