Unlicensed home daycare in Ontario oppose regulation

The second article of a three-part series on unregulated daycare in Ontario

Child Care Providers Resource Network members are calling for municipalities to set up a voluntary registry of unregulated home child care providers who have attended an accreditation training program. However, licensed home child care agencies say “registries provide a false sense of security because they don’t ensure ongoing caregiver support.”

Marni Flahery, president of the Home Child Care Association of Ontario says “isolation is the biggest risk to home caregivers”.

Home child care needs rules, oversight and support and Ontario has an effective home child care system as non-profit agencies keep administration costs low for regulated caregivers while offering them valuable support.
