Sault Ste. Marie is expected to face a child care cut of $1 million annually, as proposed in the new child care funding formula. City council plans to hold a debate on June 23rd, 2014 regarding city run child care centres. They are proposing to transfer 100 municipal child care spaces to other licensed child care operators through the Sault Ste. Marie District Social Services Administration Board. If the plan follows through, the city would be saving $650,000. However, 32 early childhood educators would be at risk of losing their job.
