Local News: Windsor rally calls for more child care funding

WINDSOR, Ont. -- As the deadline moves closer to shutter nine municipal-operated day cares expect the outcry from parents to swell, said one Friday who is leading the fight to save the child care centres.

"This large crowd on a Friday afternoon represents the tip of the iceberg in this community"said parent Scot Cipkar, battling to save the day cares as part of the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care. He has a child in the city-operated Amherstburg day care.

"This is a clear message to Dwight Duncan. Money is needed to stabilize the child care system -- not only here, but across the province. In this economic downturn there are more families and children that need help -- not less." said CUPE Ontario president Fred Hahn.
