On December 19, 2013, Minister of Education proposed regulatory changes, which are subject to a 45 day comment period.
The proposed regulation changes directly affect children, communities, RECEs and child care centres.
By completing the short survey, we can gain a better understanding on how the child care community feels about the proposed changes to ratios, mixed groupings and staffing.

A: These years are very important to children and its sad they don’t put that into perspective any more. It’s all about money, and it definately doesnt go into the pockets of an RECE, and the fake image we are portraying and tons of paperwork. After working in this field or over 16 years, I would tell anyone who is interested to run in the opposite direction! The meaning had been stripped from this occupation, and the people doing it should be ashamed.
A: Ontario should add another RECE per age group for children under 4
A: I would not want to adapt to this model
A: Change always comes hard. The focus does, however, need to stay on the children and what is best for them. We are already sending them to school at 4 years old, and we need to help them reach their developmental milestones so they are better prepared for school and life. The early years are very important in terms of development and RECE’s are experts in child development, let’s set the children up for success!

A: I feel the time and energy the Ministry of Education is using on these proposed changes, would be better utilized elsewhere.
Perhaps re-evaluating their before/after school programs. Operating unlicensed programs is not what our school agers need or deserve.
What about our children with special needs? Have they been considered in any of these proposed changes or is the Ministry of Education no longer in support of inclusion?
A: Ratios should stay the same (ie 1 RECE per group)
A: I would not want to adapt to this model
A: Ratios should be more equal, more teachers for more children
A: Ontario should add another RECE per age group for children under 4
A: The space does not have the capacity
A: In a field we are making strides to provide leadership that will contribute toward professionalism, quality, and increasing remuneration, these proposed changes seem counter productive. I believe it could add to the already stressful workplace, further erode staff moral and increase staff turnover in child care centres.
A: Ontario should add another RECE per age group for children under 4
A: The space can be converted with additional funding
A: As a lab school teacher, I have worked and published work on multi- age. It requires a very fast pace and enormous multi tasking. It is also very difficult to address. Child development forall age groups, special needs

A: I think that the DNA is in need of a change, however we need to consider the best interests of the children and how critical it is that all children have an opportunity for high quality programs, with low ratios and trained RECE
