Q: 4. Do you have any further comments on any of the proposed regulation changes?

A: I have concerns with the developmental gap between children 24 months to 4 years and I do not feel that the purposed changes embrace the developmental needs of the children in this case. I do think that further splitting this group to 24 to 36 months and over 36 months better respects the child’s development. I also have some issues with the mixed age groups. I do believe that this has great benefits for children and families however I do hesitate to include infants in this grouping.

Q: 4. Do you have any further comments on any of the proposed regulation changes?

A: yes I believe ECE are under valued for what they do and it is important to have a trial run before you can implement such changes. i think it is unfair to staff and children to always be paired together. you looking at this they need to go into the field themselves and see what really goes on,

Q: 4. Do you have any further comments on any of the proposed regulation changes?

A: These proposed regulatory changes will permanently affect the future of childcare in Ontario. Ultimately, the Ministry needs to do better because childcare deserves it. The Ministry must formerly consult with researchers, experts, providers and ECEs in the field. The proposed regulations should reflect current data and research. The proposed regulatory changes reflect the glaringly obvious fact that the province is NOT willing to provide the necessary funding to stabilize the field and ensure that children and families can access quality child care programs.

Q: 4. Do you have any further comments on any of the proposed regulation changes?

A: Some of the changes are good and allow operators much more flexibility. But I feel the 2-4 ages grouping would not be the best model as developmental there are huge differences. Perhaps a 1:6 model for 2 to 2.5 yrs olds or 1:10 for 3.5 years and up.

Q: 4. Do you have any further comments on any of the proposed regulation changes?

A: If these changes happen where are we going to get qualified RECE’s from? A lot of them have crossed over to the school board due to hours and pay…we are a field of professionals that the Government over looks.
If children aged 1-4 are going to be grouped together what happens to the quality care? Helping the children learn through play will be put on the back burner as those groups require different experiences to develop and learn according to their ages. These early years are very if not the most important ones for children and the government should not ignore this.

A: I really wish those proposing the changes would take the time to spend a day in an RECEs shoes. We’re over worked, under paid, hold precious lives in our hands every single day and someone thinks it’s a good idea to give us more responsibility. Staff retention is already at a critical point in Ontario. Someone PLEASE finally stop the insanity and truly give children the care they deserve.
